Addon domain does not resolve after adding it in cPanel

Fix addon domains that were added successfully but still do not open.

Adding a domain in cPanel creates the hosting relationship, but the domain will not resolve until its DNS points to the hosting server and the content exists in the assigned document root.

Common symptoms

  • The domain is visible in cPanel but does not load publicly
  • You get DNS errors or a placeholder page
  • SSL cannot be issued because the domain does not resolve

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Verify the domain was added without typos and that the document root folder exists.
  2. Point the domain to the correct nameservers or set the required DNS A record to the server IP.
  3. Upload at least a test file such as index.html into the assigned document root.
  4. Wait for propagation, then test again using a fresh browser session.
  5. If you use Cloudflare or another proxy, confirm the DNS record is active and not misconfigured.

Additional notes

  • SSL issuance often fails until the domain resolves publicly to the correct server.
  • A successful cPanel add-domain action does not override registrar-side DNS.

When to contact support

Contact support if the domain resolves to the correct server but still returns unexpected errors.
