File Manager upload fails or stalls in cPanel

Fix failed uploads, stuck progress bars, and incomplete file transfers in File Manager.

File Manager uploads fail most often because of browser limits, unstable connections, archive size, quota issues, or uploading into a restricted or invalid path.

Common symptoms

  • The upload bar stalls or resets
  • Large ZIP files fail but small files work
  • You get insufficient space or write errors

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Refresh File Manager and try the upload again in a private browser session.
  2. Check available disk space for the hosting account and remove unnecessary files if the account is full.
  3. Upload large content as a compressed archive, then extract it server-side in File Manager if supported.
  4. Test another browser or upload method such as FTP or SFTP for large transfers.
  5. Confirm the destination path exists and is writable.

Additional notes

  • Large uploads are more reliable over FTP or SFTP than browser-based transfers.
  • A browser tab left open for a long time can hold stale File Manager state.

When to contact support

Contact support if uploads fail in multiple browsers and the account has sufficient free space.
